Advanced Procedures

Obstetricians & Gynecologists in Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island

Some gynecologic concerns require more than a routine exam. Advanced gynecologic procedures can help diagnose symptoms, evaluate abnormal findings, and treat certain conditions affecting the cervix, uterus, ovaries, or pelvic organs.

At Bayard Street Obstetrics & Gynecology, our team offers a range of diagnostic, office-based, and minimally invasive procedures to support individualized gynecologic care. Depending on your condition, some procedures may be performed in the office, while others may be performed in a surgical setting.

What are advanced gynecologic procedures?

Advanced gynecologic procedures are specialized tests or treatments used to further evaluate or manage gynecologic symptoms and conditions.

These procedures may be recommended to better understand the cause of abnormal bleeding, abnormal Pap smear results, pelvic pain, uterine concerns, ovarian findings, or other reproductive health issues. They may also be used to evaluate the uterine cavity, remove abnormal tissue, treat cervical changes, or manage symptoms when appropriate.

Your provider will recommend a procedure based on your symptoms, exam findings, imaging results, medical history, and personal goals.
When might I need an advanced gynecologic procedure?

Your provider may recommend additional evaluation or treatment if you have abnormal Pap or HPV results, heavy or irregular bleeding, bleeding after menopause, pelvic pain, suspected fibroids or polyps, ovarian cysts, thickened uterine lining, infertility-related concerns, suspected endometriosis, or symptoms that have not improved with initial treatment.

Not every patient with these symptoms needs a procedure. Your provider will review your options and explain whether additional testing or treatment is recommended.

Advanced procedures we offer

Bayard Street Obstetrics & Gynecology offers several advanced gynecologic procedures, including:
Colposcopy
Gynecologic ultrasound
Saline infusion sonohysterography
Hysteroscopy
Endometrial ablation
LEEP
Endometrial sampling
Minimally invasive gynecologic procedures
Each procedure serves a different purpose. Some are used to evaluate symptoms or abnormal test results, while others are used to treat specific gynecologic conditions. Your provider will discuss which option is appropriate for your diagnosis, symptoms, reproductive goals, and overall health.

Minimally invasive gynecology

Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery uses small incisions, specialized instruments, and advanced visualization to treat certain gynecologic conditions with a more focused approach than traditional open surgery when appropriate.

Depending on your diagnosis and treatment goals, minimally invasive options may include laparoscopic or robotic-assisted procedures for conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian concerns, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, or other uterine and pelvic conditions.

Minimally invasive gynecologic procedures may include:
Laparoscopic or robotic-assisted myomectomy for uterine fibroids
Laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis
Ovarian cyst surgery
Risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy when indicated
Hysterectomy when medically appropriate
Other laparoscopic or robotic-assisted gynecologic procedures
Your provider will discuss whether a minimally invasive approach is appropriate based on your diagnosis, symptoms, imaging results, medical history, and future pregnancy goals.
